Telangana segment of Praja Ankita Yatra begins

October 30, 2008
Sircilla, Karimnagar

After much delay and unhappiness, the Phase 2 of the Praja Ankita Yatra that primarily targets the Telangana region started with a dull note due to poor turnout reported in Sircilla town contrary to the expectations of the Party. Belaying the Praja Rajyam Party leaders expectations, the poor turn out during the current yatra contrary to the one he undertaken on September 20 to console the bereaved families of powerloom weavers.

According to schedule, he is to reach here at 8.30am but lack of crowds near Gandhi Park made the Praja Rajyam president slow his convoy from Hyderabad. Local leaders pulled out all stops in arranging vehicles to ferry people to the busy junction. The delay of three hours of his schedule helped in a much better attendance of public at the Old Bus Stand as well as two meetings at Vemulawada and those of Korutla and Metpalli.

Party sources attributed the failure of the leaders aspiring party ticket in Sircilla in mobilizing the people for the party leader's tour. Speaking at a gathering, Chiranjeevi had announced that he would field a member of the backward classes community from this segment. Chiranjeevi declared that he would declare the stand of the party on the issue of Separate Telangana before completion of his tour. He announced that the Praja Rajyam party would give fair price for their produce, arrange waiver of loans availed by the weavers and distribution of yarn and procurement of the accumulated stocks, if voted to power.

This is the second time that Chiranjeevi is in Siricilla. Earlier, he interacted with the weaver community and said his party will address their problems. Chiranjeevi's first phase of the Praja Ankita Yatra touched the coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam before Chiranjeevi returned to Hyderabad citing health problems.
