Praja Rajyam Party President K Chiranjeevi announced his decision today that he will resign as an MLA. Chiranjeevi who earlier announced that he won't quit from assembly since he represents all the three regions of the state faced pressure from his party MLA's to resign. PRP has a total of 18 MLAs in the assembly of which the majority of them are from non-Telangana regions. 16 MLAs of the party have already submitted their resignations last week.
Meanwhile, the students of Osmania and Kakatiya University have protested Chiranjeevi's decision to quit for a United Andhra and have boycotted the movies featuring Chiranjeevi and his family in the telangana region. The students' Joint Action Committee (JAC) burnt posters of Aarya2 and Magadheera movies and boycotted the shows in front of the theaters in the telangana region.
Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters, Chiranjeevi said "In deference to the wishes of the people, the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) will henceforth stand for a united Andhra Pradesh. We shall bring the required pressure on powers that be to ensure that the stays united,".
After several long discussions with his party members in the last couple of days, Chiranjeevi said, "I am taking moral responsibility for the change in our party's stand for a united state and putting in my papers,"
