Mega fillip to Samaikya Andhra strike

December 19, 2009
Visakhapatnam

The Praja Rajya Party president, K Chiranjeevi, reiterating the party stand for a united and integrated state, has made a whirlwind tour in the city on Saturday and expressed solidarity with various sections that are protesting against the breaking up of Andhra Pradesh into smaller states. He arrived at the Visakhapatnam airport at around 11am and was received by party workers in large numbers. He reached Gajuwaka by road amidst a huge processing and met the leaders of Telugu Desam, Congress who were on a relay hunger strike demanding unified Andhra Pradesh. He expressed his solidarity with them and gave his word to stay with them in their struggle for an integrated state.

He said that unlike most other popular movements that are led by political leaders, the agitation for integrated Andhra Pradesh came from the people, especially from students and youth. He described it as a praja vudhyamamu and expressed solidarity and the support to the striking students and other sections. He felt that there was no truth in the contention that everyone in Telangana wanted separation. TRS won only 10 out of 56 seats it had contested in Telangana.

He further said that some vested political interests were fueling it on the plank of development. They were, however, not clarifying on how development would be achieved after disintegration. The Centre was trying to divide the State instead of making efforts to develop Telangana. He visited the hunger camps organized by TDP and the Congress at Gandhi statue opposite the GVMC and expressed his solidarity.

It may be recalled Chiranjeevi has submitted his resignation for his MLA post (which of course, is yet to be accepted by Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker) and is supporting the cause of a united state.
