Srikakulam

In what is considered by political analysts as yet another another severe jolt to Telugu Desam Party in the Coastal Andhra region, TDP Polit Bureau member and former minister Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao resigned from the primary membership of the TDP and its membership of the Assembly from Vunukuru constituency and joined the Praja Rajyam Party. TDP MLA from Palakonda, Kambala Jogulu and former MLA K Ganapathi Rao also announced their decision to resign from TDP and join in Praja Rajyam in the presence of thousands of supporters.

The move by Kala Venkata Rao has put an end to the prolonged speculation about his switchover. The decision to join the Praja Rajyam was announced at a public meeting in his native village. Hectic efforts by the TDP leadership to assuage the ruffled feelings of Kala who was sore over the domination of the TDP Parliamentary Party leader K Yerran Naidu failed.

Speaking at a gathering, Kala came down heavily on Yerran Naidu for his dictatorial style of functioning forcing several senior leaders in the party that the TDP lost its pristine glory with the demise of NT Rama Rao and the party president Chandrababu Naidu was running a skeleton without the soul. He said that the matters had begun to deteriorate with a coterie surrounding the party president. He said that it was people's aspirations to usher in a change through the Praja Rajyam that prompted him to join. He said that he would soon meet Chiranjeevi and join the party. It may be recalled another senior TDP leader Tammineni Seetaram joined PPR after announcing has quit from TDP because of differences with Yerran Naidu.

Kala is a senior politician having influential leadership characters in the Srikakulam region in particular and the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh in general. Kala was with the TDP since 1982. He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly a whopping four times from the Unukuru constituency in Srikakulam district. He served some of the key ministerial portfolios under the leadership of Nara Chandrababu Naidu was was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at that time. Kala served the Home, Municipal Administration and Commercial taxes ministeries. Kala also draws experience at the national-level politics for having served as a Rajya Sabha member for a term.

The news of Kala joining PRP cheered the top leadership of the party which is scouting for the right leaders to top the party in various regions of the state. Back in October 08, Chodavaram MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao joined PRP. Chiranjeevi's road-show Praja Ankitha Yatra touched Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam has made an incredible positive impact on the people in the region.
