Praja Rajyam Party chief says credit of Congress election win goes to Manmohan Singh

In a significant statement, the Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi said that the entire credit for the Congress victory in the just concluded elections should go to Man Mohan Singh, the party's Prime Ministerial candidate and not to the party or to any of other leaders. The Congress victory is singularly due to tremendous feel good factor created among voters by Dr. Manmohan Singh through his economic and social security policies, he said.

Addressing a press conference, he said that gross injustice was done to the State in respect of Union Cabinet posts. He felt that gross injustice was done to the State in terms of number of Ministerial berths alloted to it, though the State sent 33 Congress MPs to the Lok Sabha, a much larger chunk than provided by any other State. He commented that the State Congress leadership failed to demand its pound of flesh from the Centre in Cabinet formation.

Chiranjeevi took strong exception that to the charge of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and other leaders blaming the Praja Rajyam Party for playing spoilsport and asked them to gracefully accept the defeat instead of trying to find excuses. He added that the Praja Rajyam Party created a record of sorts by polling 17percent votes in the elections. On the demand being placed for replacement of EVMs with conventional ballot papers in future elections, he said that since parties were expressing reservations over the efficacy of EVMs, the Election Commission must clear the air.
