August 25, 2010

The PRP president K Chiranjeevi on Wednesday at the inaugural of the party plenary lashed out at the State Government stating that people were wooed with welfare schemes and the benefits are not reaching them. He said that the lack of commitment on the part of the government and inefficiency of the bureaucracy as the main reason for the failure of welfare schemes. Chiranjeevi said that DWCRA women who were taking loans and running the programme, were not reimbursed their expenses by the government. The PRP president ruled out the merger of his party with Congress and dismissed such talk as baseless and asked the party workers to condemn such a campaign. As far as the alliances concerned, he said that alliances have become the order of the day and asked the gathering as to which political party in the country had won the elections on its own during the last few years. Referring to social justice, Chiranjeevi said that the PRP is the only party to give tickets to 104 BC candidates to tune with the party policy. He charged the TDP and Congress for failing to meet the aspirations of the people.

On the count of his re-entry into the film world, he said that he had given up acting in movies when he launched the party but now, there are so many party workers and leaders at various levels who can take care of the party affairs. He expressed his desire to enter into film world again and use the medium of cinema to send a message across the people. As far as the Electronic Voting Machines and the arrest of K Hari Prasad, a Hyderabad based computer engineer who demonstrated the vulnerability of EVMs in general elections, Chiranjeevi said that instead of dispelling the doubts about the EVM, and the arrest only increases the suspicion in the mind and stated that he preferred only to ballot paper.

As far as the vote percentage concerned, Chiranjeevi said that the Praja Rajyam Party polled 18 percent votes in the last elections and no political party in the State had received such a huge support except when NT Rama Rao launched the Telugu Desam Party. Party leaders Allu Aravind, K Vidyadhara Rao, Avanthi Srinivasa Rao, Ch Venkataramaiah, PVGR Naidu, SA Rehman, DT Nayak, Veda Vyas, Vasireddi Padma, Thota Trimurthulu and Jyothula Nehru were present.
