Praja Rajyam Party to merge with Congress

It's Official. Praja Rajyam Party will merge with the 125-year-old Congress party.

Praja Rajyam Party President Chiranjeevi who met with AICC President Sonia Gandhi today has officially told the media that the party will merge with Congress. Speaking to the media, Chiranjeevi said that the decision was taken taking in the larger interest of people in the state.

During his interaction with Sonia Gandhi, Chiranjeevi said that they have discussed in length on various issues of the state including the national status of the Polavaram project. They also discussed about the compensation package to the farmers and weavers who suffered due to the recent floods in the state. Chiranjeevi said that Congress has assured the aim of the Social Justice motto of the PRP party. He said that the BC and minority sections of people will be given due preference.

Chiranjeevi to stick to providing Social justice to people

Chiranjeevi confirmed that there is nothing personal in the decision taken to merge with Congress. He said that they are always bound to providing social justice to the people of the state. Chiranjeevi added that the state's interest are much larger than the personal benefits and hence the merger with Congress. He also told the media that he will not take any ministerial position in the Andhra Pradesh state cabinet.

Moily expresses Hapiness

Congress senior leader and in-charge of state congress affairs Veerappa Moily expressed his happiness on the Praja Rajyam Party merging with Congress. Speaking to the media after the meeting between Chiranjeevi and Sonia Gandhi, Moily said that Chiranjeevi has a lot to offer to the Congress party. He said that the Congress party will strengthen more by the merging of PRP. When asked about Chiranjeevi's role in Congress, Moily said that he will take part in all affairs of the Congress party as he is part of the Congress family now.

PRP leaders shocked, but happy

Meanwhile Praja Rajyam Party leaders in Hyderabad expressed shock on their President Chiranjeevi expressing the merger in New Delhi. However they expressed happiness on the decision and said that Chiranjeevi will rise to a much greater levels as a Congress leader. Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal also expressed happiness at the merger of PRP and Congress.

Cabinet changes likely

With Praja Rajyam Party merging with Congress, there will be a change in the cabinet structure in the state. A meeting will take place on the 14th of this month where the final decision would be taken.

Chief Minister welcomes the decision

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy welcome the decision of merger and congratulated Chiranjeevi and his MLAs and it would help them to work together for the welfare of the poorest of the poor and over all development of the State.
