AK Antony meets Chiranjeevi, PRP on a possible coalition with Congress

January 31, 2011

Defence Minister of India and senior Congress Politician A K Antony has met with Praja Rajyam Party President K Chiranjeevi at the later's residence today. PCC President D Srinivas has received A K Antony at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and they both went to Chiranjeevi's residence straight away. It is learnt that the trio have discussed the political scenario in the state.

Unofficial sources say that Chiranjeevi has been offered one Rajya Sabha seat and four ministerial berths in the State Government. Chiranjeevi will also be given a respectable position in the Union Government. The final decision is likely to be taken after the conclusion of 'Rachabanda' programmes in the state.

This move by Congress appears to put a check on the moves made by former Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy who resigned from Congress to start his own political outfit called 'YSR Party'. It may be recalled that Chiranjeevi was earlier invited to Delhi on few ocassions showing signs that PRP is not against extending their support to the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh.

However senior PRP politician Ramchandriah speaking to the media said that Chiranjeevi has been invited to New Delhi for talks with Sonia Gandhi. He said that no political topics including Pulivendula bye-elections were discussed in the meeting with AK Antony.

Chiranjeevi who was scheduled to tour in Tirupati tomorrow has cancelled his trip. He will visit New Delhi shortly.
