Right move to merge PR with Congress says Chiranjeevi

Actor-turned-Politician Chiranjeevi said that he made the right move when he decided to merge the Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress party. While saying that he is not worried about securing a position in the Government, Chiranjeevi said that his desire to render justice to the weaker sections has attracted him to politics. Admitting that he failed to reach his desired goal in politics, Chiranjeevi said that lack of political acumen did him in. He said that he would not trade the support of the people for any post or position.

In a meeting organized to mark the entry of Praja Rajyam leaders from Allagadda constituency of Kurnool district, Chiranjeevi said that he had never doubted his intention to merge PRP with Congress. He said that he initially planned for an alliance with the ruling party, but decided to go ahead and merge it when the merger proposal came. Expressing happiness for the support he is receiving, Chiranjeevi said that his fans and party supporters backed him all the way. Chiranjeevi said that Congress is the only party which could serve social justice to weaker sections of the people and Corruption-free society remains the primary goal.

Chiranjeevi also said that he made a mistake of giving party ticket to Shoba Nagi Reddy in the 2009 Assembly elections despite resistance from party cadres. It is to noted that Shoba Nagi Reddy later joined the YSR Congress Party. Chiranjeevi said that the future is bright to the ruling Congress party. APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, while speaking on the occasion, said that Congress and PRP are not separate entities after the merger. Law Minister Erasu Pratap Reddy, senior leaders Gangula Pratap Reddy, Gangula Prabhakar Reddy and Kotagiri Vidyadhar Rao were present on the occasion. Over 500 party workers of the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party joined the Congress party on the occasion.
