Praja Rajyam Party political panel favor conditional relationship
Hyderabad, November 3, 2009
The Congress Party is reportedly decided to continue friendly ties with Praja Rajyam Party in the long term interests of the ruling party. Though the present alliance for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections is off, top leaders do not rule out roping in the Praja Rajyam in future as its partner. Notwithstanding the strong opposition from YS Rajasekhara Reddy's loyalists, the Congress leadership has not lost hope and wants to wait for an opportune time to bring Praja Rajyam to its side.
According to a senior functionary of APCC said that the central leadership has only said the alliance for the GHMC elections is over and added that the top leaders in New Delhi favored Congress-Praja Rajyam Partnership. The leader reasoned that it was necessary for the party to tap the Praja Rajyam which has 18 MLAs given the slender margin the ruling party has in the Assembly. If the alliance had materialized, merger of Praja Rajyam with Congress would have been the next step, he noted.
In this context, the APCC president D Srinivas said on Tuesday that he owned up fully responsibility for the alliance not fructifying and it was not right to blame Praja Rajyam president K Chiranjeevi or other leaders. The Praja Rajyam Party also confirmed that the Congress high command was interested in continuing the friendship despite aborted alliance. It is learnt that Veerappa Moily telephoned the PR chief Chiranjeevi on Tuesday and expressed the hope that the two parties could be friends and is said to have admitted that pressure from a section in the Congress led to failure of the alliance. It is understood that the Praja Rajyam's political affairs committed favored a conditional relationship with the protected the interests of the party MLAs.
Ever since the party formation, PRP has become a good political friend for many leading political parties . It may be recalled Samajwadi Party and CPI have tried to ally with PRP last year as a part of the preparatory process for the general elections.
