Party introspects for the reasons for its dismal performance
Hyderabad, November 26, 2009
The Chiranjeevi spark failed once again. After failing in the State Assembly and Lok Sabha Elections earlier this year, Praja Rajyam Party has shown a dismal performance in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Elections.
Before entering into the poll fray, the party said it will field only those candidates who have better winning chances and improve its vote bank. Chiranjeevi himself, and its top leaders, including Pavan Kalyan, campaigned extensively in the 16 divisions where it fielded its candidates. However, the party is able to win in only one division. M Narasimha Yadav came to the rescue from disgrace when he won the seat from Old Bowenpally division.
High expectations are built around PRP with the party leadership aimed to be a key decider for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions. But because of this poor show, the total plan, expectations and aspirations have got collapsed.
Lack of competent candidates, cadre and proper organizational strength in the twin cities and confusion about its possible tie-up with Congress party are attributed to be the main reasons for the show. With this, PRP has appeared to have lost the opportunity to make a big impact in the politics of the region.
