Former Union Minister Parvathaneni Upendra passes away

Upendra joined PRP in May 09

Hyderabad, November 16, 2009

Former Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senior Politician, a key PRP leader and once a close associate of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, Parvathaneni Upendra passed away after brief illness at a private hospital in Hyderabad.

P Upendra, 73, is survived with a wife, three sons and a daughter. Upendra's daughter is married to the son of Congress MP from Vijayawada, Lagadapati Rajagopal. Doctors who treated on Upendra said he is treated on dialysis for the past five years following a kidney ailment. A muti-organ failure is believed to be reason for his demise.

Upendra served as the Union Minister when VP Singh was in power and is responsible for the Prasar Bharati Bill. He moved out of Telugu Desam Party in mid-1990. In November 08, he bayed good bye to Congress. Recently, in May 2009, he joined the Praja Rajyam Party, just before the elections.
