Chiranjeevi says TDP and Congress match-fixed and allowed gas exploitation

Says RIL and GSPC are allowed to exploit natural gas reserves in Krishna-Godavari basin

Hyderabad, August 29, 2009

Praja Rajyam Party President K Chiranjeevi criticized the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for indulging in a matchi-fixing that has allowed companies such as the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) to exploit the natural gas reserves in the Krishna-Godavari Basin.

Chiranjeevi blamed the TDP-lead Nara Chandrababu Naidu Government for its failure to place proper bids in the D-6 block in 1999 which has indirectly helped the Gujarat Government to place successful bid.

The PRP Chief said they ought to give at least 50 per cent share in the natural gas discovered in D 6 Block of K-G basin to Andhra Pradesh and meet the local needs. He later addressed a small gathering at the Gadimoga just outside the RIL’s on-shore terminal. Addressing the villagers in the region, he asked for their confidence in the PRP to fight for their rights and promised that he would come back to see that their interests were protected.
